If you want to have a domain/subdomain you have to purchase one or sometimes other sites will give you a domain/subdomain for free or for a cost. If you don't know where to purchase one.. Try google and search "Web Hosting". Some of the sites are Godaddy, Hostmonster, Parade Hosting, etc. Make sure your 100% positive you want a site cause it does cost money. You need to be familiar with FTP, CSS, and HTML. Having a editing program like Photoshop is something you might want too. If your just getting started a subdomain would be the best option if your totally new at this.
First you have to make sure its available. If yes, then make sure the name is: Eye catching, Easy to type, What you want (cause you can't change it), and Appropriate. Your site name should be based on your content. If you want to have MySpace layouts on your site try putting in "lyts or layouts" in your name.
Don't make your site name so long. Who wants to type a long name to go to your site?
You need to be
original and not copy/take anything from another site. Make sure you have some talent towards what you are making. Don't make so many things and not have quality. Take your time and work hard on your content. Make sure you update your content all the time. We try to update everyday. Updating will bring more viewers and costumers to your website.
Making a layout you need a editing program. (Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro) Be creative with your layout. Don't make it so small though. Use colors that will attract viewers but nothing too bright. Make sure everything blends well and matches. Don't use small fonts! Not everyone is going to have perfect eyes. The site is for the viewers. Use a normal size font like Tahoma, Arial, Georgia, and Verdana. With the size no smaller then 8px. Don't use light colored fonts. Your better off with using black.
Organize your site. Even though you might know where everything is, your viewers don't! Put your content in certain sections and somewhere its visible.
Don't think your site is going to have tons of views and its going to be a hit! You have to work up to it and take your time! Don't know who to see your views? Google: Site Tracker. (ex: Extreme Tracker) Try becoming affiliates with other sites and get advertised. :)
You can have ads on your site and doing this you will earn money. This is optional but a lot of sites have them. Every time someone clicks on a advertisement on your page you get money. Some sites that host ads are: GoogleAds, Nabbr, Brite Ads, Burst Media, and etc. Or just google :)
